She would have to move into the House of Night and make a whole new group of friends – every high schooler’s worse fear. Zoey thought her life was over when she got marked by a vampyre tracker. She and Sam became so much closer as the book progressed it was heartwarming. Violet’s relationship with her brother was the best part of this whole book. It’s something I’ve wanted to do with my family. The whole look into her family history was fascinating. I would have liked to see their relationship develop over time. I loved Violet and Liv’s relationship, but it felt like there was barely time for them. This book was okay, so I rated it 3/5 stars. Will Violet’s attraction to Liv turn into something? CW: Talks of Suicide. Then she meets Liv, someone willing to help her find some information on her family. Violet’s great-great-great grandmother founded Lyric, and the events surrounding her arrival fascinate Violet. Maybe being in Lyric will be the fresh start she needs. Things take a turn for the worse when Violet’s younger brother, Sam, attempts suicide. In the city, she was a bit of a wild child. Violet Larkin has been sent to her mom’s hometown of Lyric, Maine for a change of scenery. The Last True Poets of the Sea by Julia Drake Since graduating, I have had more time to read, and I thought it was about time to pick up these books. It should not surprise anyone that I still have some unread YA books on my bookshelves. While I haven’t been reading much in that age demographic, it still holds a special place in my heart. I decided to go back to my roots for this post because my love for reading grew from reading Young Adult books. It’s time to let this new story write itself. It’s weird now that I’m finished with school, but I’m ready to move on to the next chapter of my life. Being in a sorority was stressful, but it allowed me to open myself up to new opportunities and get out of my shell. I met some of my best friends in my org and even lived with girls in another sorority. One of my closest friends was in a sorority- she inspired my decision. Besides joining the student paper, it was one of the best decisions I made. I almost transferred to another school, but I decided to go through formal recruitment to join a sorority. It was the semester after COVID sent the whole campus home, yet it still felt like a ghost town. My sophomore year was one of the toughest. Punk 57 has basically become one of my personality traits, something one of my closest friends said to me. If I had not discovered Romance books, I would be a completely different reader. Then I discovered BookTube, specifically the Romance subsection. I was in quarantine with my family with hardly anything to do. My second semester had me rediscovering my love for reading, even if it was required reading.
I wasn’t enjoying any of the books that I was reading. My first semester put me in a huge reading slump. That’s something I am forever grateful for. If it were not for Hofstra’s English department, I would not have rediscovered my love of reading. The writing sample is already causing some writer’s block, but I feel confident in my idea. Applying to grad school could be considered an assignment, but I’m trying not to overwhelm myself with that. I feel like I have an assignment I need to complete, but I graduated. Senior year helped me come to this conclusion because sometimes you just need to go home. I wanted to go to an out-of-state school so badly that I didn’t realize I would miss home so much. Friends showed their true colors, and some turned out to be the best people, others did not. It’s 2023, and I am still trying to find myself. Now, I get asked by parents where to find a specific building or event still, no clue where to direct them. Back in 2019, I was a tiny little freshman getting lost on campus. It is a total cliché to say, but time really flew by. As of yesterday, May 21, 2023, I am a college graduate majoring in English with a concentration in Children’s and Young Adult Literature, with a double minor in Religion and Writing Studies. I cannot believe I am writing this right now.
